That guy on the escalator !
Went shopping with ma yesterday. I had initially decided against buying anything for this durga puja (since i am visibly fat and not-so-visibly, still mourning). But all such declarations were forgotten when it actually came to buying stuff. So together me and ma bought two very expensive sarees and i bought four suits too. And not to mention the two suits that i had bought and already gotten stitched earlier. Even though all this seemed to have given me pleasure, my mother was visibly displeased at my shopping escapades. According to her, i go crazy when i enter a shop and wanna buy everything. Even though according to some of my friends and their relatives, i am a sensible person to have around while shopping since i try not to revel in petty things. Well, to each his own. I think each views me in different light cause i behave very differently with each one of them. For example, when my mother(who by no standards is a spenthrift) is around, i try to make her spend some more money and have a little bit of fun(even at the risk of being chided publicly of course). When i do out with deepz, i try to curtail her spending habits (which by far exceed her earnings). When i go alone, it really depends on my mood.
But this is not about my spending habits at all. Yesterday, we and ma decided to take a different route to C.P. To use the metro, instead of roads. I thought this would help ma get over her fear of escalators. She tripped once in between but did quite well. I think its the hurry and people that make her more nervous than the actual revolving belt. This time at Rajiv chowk, when she was taking her time to step on it, i asked her to move aside to make way for another man standing behind. But surprisingly, this young guy said "its, okay, she can do it. i'll wait". Even though we requested him to go first , he waited and insisted that ma could do it on her own and encouraged her. Ma got on and off the escalator quite commfortable, after all it is no big a deal. But we were so pleasantly surprised by this young guy, who must be in his late twnties or early thirties. To the extent that i decided that when i get married, i definately wanna get married to a man who is nice to everyone and not to his family and friends only. Someone who exudes optimism and is very encouraging. I am sure the escalator guy had his faults, but that day he seemed almost perfect!
