Dad's got mail !
Since writing about my imaginary romantic life has got very boring these days, i've decided to conciously divert my attention elsewhere. And that would be my adorable Dad and his recent obsession with computers. Now understandably, he's picked up these (computer) skills a little later in life but is definately very excited about them.
It all started with him searching for a groom for me online. We'd sit thru many profiles and he'd give his opinion(which was often not taken) on the prospects. Even though he had his first email account three years back, he'd check mail rather sporadically till a few months back. Suddenly, there is a new josh in him. He wants to check his mails twice daily. Sometimes more. After much consideration, i realise that its my presence that makes him do so. Now if he gets into any trouble while operating on the comp, he just hollers. While earlier, he was just a bit apprehensive, thinking he'd spoil it(and this is a man who's worked on heavy machinery).
So now a typical conversation with his subbordinates goes like this-
Mr.K- Sir, i had some problems regarding the connections of the DTH 31 and CDAG 14
Mr.D- sure, why dont you e mail me your queries.
Mr.K- It's okay sir... i'll call whenever you are free.
Mr.D- No no, email me. i'll send you the answers.
Now why do you think Mr.D wants to answer queries thru emails. I have a theory for that- he loves sitting on the comp and checking his mailbox. And now, he can do all that without any support(meaning, i am not needed). Yet, no one really writes to him. I mean, my aunts and uncles aren't exactly tech savvy. Hence the subordinates.
Infact he's gone a step further. He's now planning our next holiday to the southern part of India and surfs the net regularly for interesting places. I say chaps- really cool!!!
I like that about my father. He's always eager to learn new things, experiment and never gets disheartened if he fails. Almost like a kid. However, his recent interest in the entire process of DVD burning somehow doesn't excite me too much (i wonder why...only time will tell!!!). Now to think of it, the very fact that all my files and folders (esp the personal ones) are available for everyone to view makes me a bit uncomfortable too. Even though they are all password protected, yet they are there. But no one in our house is an investigative journalist...so i guess i am safe.
Till then, gardez-le vers le haut Baba
